Sri Lanka vs Pakistan Women 1st ODI Preview & Tips – Pakistan to slump to opening ODI defeat at the hands of Sri Lanka

Pakistan Women put an end to an eight-game losing run across formats as they closed their T20 World Cup campaign with a 37-run win over the Netherlands.

In the ODI game, Sri Lanka have won three of their last 10 ODI’s against Pakistan, with the latter winning the other seven.

Sri Lanka Women arrive for the first ODI against Pakistan as the slight favourites on the back of a brace of victories in their last two 50 over matches.

Wins over Bangladesh by four wickets and seven wickets saw them triumph 2-1 in their ODI series, while it saw them notch a fifth win in seven 50 over games. 

Their previous record against Pakistan in the ODI game is not great, but they look to be building something across formats after winning 12 of their last 15. In this time, they have lost to Bangladesh in the ODI game and to England and the West Indies at the recent T20 World Cup. Sri Lanka may not be on the same level as Australia and England as yet, but they are proving to be a solid competitor in the ODI and T20 games.

Pakistan Women suffered a horrendous T20 World Cup campaign as they lost six of their seven World Cup warm up and group outings, only breaking this run with a 37-run win over the Netherlands in their final game.

In the ODI game, Pakistan have looked solid. They beat South Africa by 119 runs before hammering Zimbabwe 3-0 by triumphing by 168 runs, 206 runs and nine wickets. When Pakistan are in the ascendancy, they are tough to stop, with wicket-taking options and run-scorers aplenty.

While they do arrive looking to extend a four-game winning run in the 50 over game, they have lost six of their last 10 in the format. It is also worth noting their big 119-run win over South Africa came after going 2-0 down in their three-game series with the battle over as a contest.

While Pakistan will have their moments across this series, I predict that they will struggle on the road, with Sri Lanka extending their own impressive winning run.
