Sri Lanka vs Pakistan T20 World Cup Preview & Tips

Sri Lanka are out of their own World Cup after they were handed another heavy defeat at the hands of New Zealand.

Pakistan need a big win over Sri Lanka in their third Super 8's match after their two-wicket loss to England last time out.

Pakistan have won four of their last 10 against Sri Lanka, with the latter winning the other six meetings.

Sri Lanka's hopes of securing a T20 World Cup semi-final berth evaporated following a pair of defeats at the hands of England and New Zealand.

In their opening Super 8's match against England, Sri Lanka bowled well as they restricted England to just 146/9, but they fell apart with the bat as England skittled them for just 95. In their must-win game against New Zealand, they once again bowled well as they restricted the Black Caps to 168/7. However, an insipid batting display saw Sri Lanka stutter to 107/8 as their World Cup hopes were dashed.

Now, Sri Lanka have the chance to ensure they do not end at the foot of the group. However, after a woeful run of three consecutive defeats, I am backing the co-hosts to stomach yet another loss on the biggest stage of all.

Pakistan Form

Pakistan were left about 15 runs short of a truly competitive score against England, with only a late wobble from the batting unit of the latter seeing Pakistan come close to victory.

With dropped catches and mis-fields included, Pakistan probably profited from around 15 runs. However, despite Sahibzada Farhan's excellent 63 from 45, their score of 164/9 did not look unassailable.

Pakistan's bowlers were well on top in the opening exchanges, dismissing the dangerous Phil Salt without scoring before removing Jos Buttler for just two runs. At 58/4, England were in real trouble, but Pakistan could not find a way to remove Harry Brook, who scored a match-winning century.

Now, Pakistan will be looking to bounce back at the first time of asking. They have been fairly good against Sri Lanka in recent T20 meetings, and I predict that the dangerous Farhan will once again showcase his superb ability with the bat with another good score.
