Pakistan vs New Zealand T20 World Cup Preview & Tips
Pakistan hammered Namibia in a resounding 102-run win in their last World Cup group game as they bounced back from their loss to India.
New Zealand eased to an eight-wicket win over Canada in their last outing as they got back to winning ways ahead of the Super 8 stage of the World Cup.
- Pakistan have won 12 of their last 15 T20's in all competitions (L3)
- Sahibzada Farhan has scored 220 runs for Pakistan at the World Cup this year
Head To Head
Pakistan have won four of their 10 against New Zealand in the T20 game, with the Black Caps winning the other six.
Pakistan Form
Pakistan were excellent in their last World Cup game against Namibia as they completely outplayed their opponents in a 102-run win.
Of course, a big win over a much weaker side should be taken with a pinch of salt, but there have been giant-killings across the tournament so far, meaning any World Cup win is something that should be celebrated.
Against New Zealand, Pakistan will have to stand up against a real test. The Black Caps are strong across the pitch, boasting stars with bat and ball. However, Pakistan can match fire with fire, with Sahibzada Farhan particularly important. His 100 not out from 58 against Namibia was incredibly impressive, and he will hope to add to his 220 runs for the tournament so far.
While New Zealand boast a good record against their opponents in the T20 game, this match-up is incredibly close. I predict that Pakistan will come out on top though, with the conditions and their ability to play to them better seeing them secure a vital win.
New Zealand Form
With the exception of their clash with South Africa, New Zealand have been in good form, beating Afghanistan, the UAE and Canada in comfortable wins.
However, against the Proteas, New Zealand were not able to post a truly competitive score, with their tally of 175/7 chased down with seven wickets and 17 deliveries to spare. Interestingly, New Zealand have won three matches in which they have gone into bat second, losing their only match when setting the target.
Does this Black Caps side have an issue when it comes to properly pacing an innings and setting a target? While New Zealand's team is crammed with top quality talent, will they crumble against a strong side that is well versed in the conditions?
Verdict
I am backing Sahibzada Farhan to add to his 220 runs for the campaign so far as he leads Pakistan to a crucial win in the Super 8's.
