Pakistan are hoping to extend an impressive run of form in the Twenty20 game that has seen the nation win five of their last six completed matches.

The Netherlands arrive for this one on the back of a poor run of form prior to the World Cup that has already dented their slim hopes of making it out of the group.

In their two previous meetings in T20's, Pakistan have secured an 82-run win in 2009 and a six-wicket win in 2022.

Pakistan arrive for the 2026 T20 World Cup hoping to make a big statement in their opening match as they look to top a group also containing India, Namibia and the USA.

Across their last 12 completed T20's, Pakistan have secured 10 wins including victories in their last three against Australia. To have hammered the Aussies by 22-runs, 90-runs and 111-runs to secure a 3-0 triumph is testament to how far this Pakistan side have come.

Their blend of intelligent bowling along with an aggressive batting order means they have a genuine chance of winning the competition this year.

With all of their aggressive top-order batters, Salman Ali Agha has become even more important, with the captain blending consistent run scoring with the ability to rotate the strike. With this in mind, I back the captain to go beyond the 20-run mark as he leads his side to a crucial win in their opener.

Netherlands Form

The Netherlands will be eyeing one of the great World Cup victories as they take on Pakistan in the opening game of the competition in 2026.

The Netherlands will know more winnable matches against the USA and Namibia are to come but, if they are to seriously challenge for a place in the Super 8, then they will have to beat one of Pakistan or India.

The Netherlands will aim for victory over Pakistan then, but I do not predict that they will get anywhere near their opponents. Instead, I back the Netherlands to sink to a defeat that harms their already slim hopes of getting out of the group.
