Lahore Qalandars vs Peshawar Zalmi Preview & Tips
Lahore Qalandars saw their hopes of securing a playoff spot take a major blow as they slipped to a five-wicket loss to Karachi Kings in their penultimate match of the regular season.
Peshawar Zalmi have been the outstanding side this season with the outfit avoiding defeat across their opening nine matches.
- Zalmi will finish the group stage of the PSL at the summit
- Zalmi have won eight of their nine matches (NR1)
Head To Head
In their last 10 meetings, Zalmi have secured five wins with the Qalandars winning the other five.
Lahore Qalandars Form
Lahore Qalandars took on Karachi Kings in a must-win match last time out as they attempted to ensure they entered the final round of games in one of the top spots.
Their loss to the Kings was one that saw them fail to get rid of David Warner (63 not out), with the Aussie opener guiding his side home with five wickets and eight deliveries to spare. Ultimately, Lahore's score of 199/6 felt around 25 runs too short to be truly competitive. This defeat has seen them slide down to fifth in the standings with one game to come.
Prior to this, they had won four of their previous eight, losing the other four. While they have been in fairly good form across the season, they are not in the same bracket as a Zalmi side yet to lose this season. Having lost three of their last four against their opponents, I predict that the Qalandars will slump to a defeat in their final group game.
Peshawar Zalmi Form
Peshawar Zalmi have been seemingly unstoppable this season, with the side yet to taste a single defeat across their nine group games. With their 10th and final group game to come, Zalmi could boast a perfect record across their nine completed matches with a win in this one.
Their last outing ended in a hard-earned seven-wicket win over Karachi Kings. Despite Jason Roy's 85 from 51, Zalmi were able to ease to the win courtesy of Kusal Mendis (80 not out) and Farhan Yousaf (58 not out). With Babar Azam falling for 25, Zalmi were able to show the depth of their batting unit as they secured another win with seven deliveries to spare.
With three wins in their last four against the Qalandars and eight wins across their completed games this season, I back Zalmi to head into the playoffs on the back of yet another victory.
Verdict
I am backing Peshawar Zalmi to continue to dominate the PSL as they head into the playoffs on the back of an unbeaten season.
