India vs New Zealand T20 World Cup Final Preview & Tips
India beat England by seven runs in a pulsating semi-final that saw the momentum swing back and forth between the two nations.
New Zealand hammered South Africa by nine wickets in their last game as they stormed into the World Cup final on the back of a big win.
- India have only lost once at the World Cup in 2026 (W7)
- Tim Seifert is averaging 45.67 at the 2026 World Cup
Head To Head
India have won seven of their last 10 T20 matches against New Zealand, with the latter winning twice and one game ending as a draw via the DLS method.
India Form
India needed almost every one of their 253 runs to beat England in their semi-final clash as the latter had to stomach a seven-run defeat despite hammering their way to 246/7.
While India's batting, led by a stunning 89 from Sanju Samson, was in fine form, their bowling unit struggled. Jasprit Bumrah (1/33) was his usual miserly self, but there were instances where England's batters really got at India.
In the final, New Zealand will likely look to see-off Jasprit Bumrah before targeting the other bowlers. If the Black Caps can hit one of the front-five bowlers out of the attack, India's sixth bowling option will be another they can go at.
If India can get rid of New Zealand's dangerous openers then they will hugely enhance their chances of winning this match. While I predict that Tim Seifert will have a good final, I back the tournament co-hosts to extend their excellent run at the competition, with their eighth win in nine matches the most important of all.
New Zealand Form
New Zealand were excellent in their last match as they humiliated South Africa in a nine-wicket win in the semi-finals.
Set 170 to win, New Zealand cruised to their target courtesy of a stunning 100 not out off 33 deliveries from Finn Allen. In the innings of the tournament so far, Allen was not ever going to be stopped as he hammered 10 boundaries and eight maximums.
While Allen will be desperate to back up his semi-final exploits with another big knock, it is often tough for a player to emulate their own performance in the game before. Tim Seifert played the supporting role in the semi-final with a score of 58 from 33, and I back him to go well in the final. Seifert has scored 274 runs at the tournament and I predict he will continue to climb the top run scorer charts.
While I back Seifert to impress, I am backing against New Zealand in this one. While they were excellent in the last round, they have already lost to South Africa in the group-stage and England in the Super 8's. With these defeats in mind, I predict that the Black Caps will fall agonisingly short of the trophy.
Verdict
I am backing Tim Seifert's knock of 30+ runs to be for nothing as New Zealand slump to defeat in the World Cup final.
