England vs Pakistan T20 World Cup Preview & Tips
England were outstanding with the ball in their opening Super 8 match as they dominated Sri Lanka in a 51-run win.
Pakistan were handed a frustrating point in their opening Super 8 match as their clash with New Zealand was abandoned.
- England have won four of their five World Cup matches (L1)
- Pakistan have lost their last six against England in the shortest format
- Phil Salt scored 62 from 40 in his last appearance for England
Head To Head
England have won seven of their last 10 against Pakistan, with the latter winning the other three.
England Form
England were able to post a competitive score of 146/9 in their clash with Sri Lanka before their spinners tore through the co-hosts in a very impressive display of using the conditions.
Will Jacks (3/22) and Adil Rashid (2/13) proved the difference makers with the spinning ball, with Jofra Archer also chipping in with 2/20. While the wickets were shared across the bowling unit, it was left to Phil Salt to carry the team with the bat as he notched 62 from 40 on a surface that proved tough for the batters to come to terms with.
After losing to the West Indies, England have secured wins over Scotland, Italy and co-hosts Sri Lanka, with Harry Brook's side seemingly beginning to peak at the right time. Phil Salt continues to show his quality with the bat, and I predict that he will lead England to a seventh consecutive T20 win over Pakistan for the Three Lions.
Pakistan Form
Pakistan would have fancied their chances of claiming the win over New Zealand in their first Super 8 match, with their abandoned game meaning their subsequent matches against England and Sri Lanka are now must-wins.
Across the tournament, Pakistan have only lost to favourites India, while they have beaten the Netherlands, USA and Namibia. While Pakistan have looked in good touch with bat and ball, the quality of opponent ramps up massively, with only their game against India one that could be seen as a clash with a genuine heavyweight of the game.
While Pakistan will give England issues, especially with their spinning options with the ball, I predict that they will struggle against one of the best teams at the tournament. England look to be finding form at the right time, and I predict this will spell trouble for Pakistan in their battle for a semi-final spot.
Verdict
I am backing Phil Salt to top score for England as his side secures a crucial win in their second Super 8 outing.
