Bangladesh vs Pakistan 2nd ODI Preview & Tips
Bangladesh dominated the first ODI with the ball as they embarrassed the touring side by skittling them for just 114 runs.
Pakistan were not good enough with bat and ball in their opener against the home side as they were bested with both bat and ball in a very one-sided contest.
- Shaheen Shah Afridi has a strike rate of 17.58 with the ball against Bangladesh in ODI cricket
- Pakistan have won four of their last five in the 50 over game
Head To Head
Both sides have won five of the last 10 ODI meetings between the pair.
Bangladesh Form
Bangladesh were in no mood to hang around with bat or ball in their opening clash with Pakistan as they needed less than 50 overs to complete an emphatic victory.
With the ball, Bangladesh were superb, turning pressure into wickets as they rallied from conceding 41 runs without taking a wicket after nine overs to ending Pakistan's innings with 114 on the board after 30.4 overs.
In truth, it was a real mismatch in intensity between the two sides as Bangladesh then came out and chased their total down with just 15.1 overs on the board. Tanzid Hasan was outstanding with the bat as he notched an unbeaten 67 from 42 deliveries with this including seven boundaries and five maximums.
While Bangladesh were worthy winners in the first ODI, I predict that they will have a far more difficult time of it in game two. Perhaps Pakistan's failure at the T20 World Cup has bled into the start of their ODI series. With the chance to make amends in game two, I predict that Bangladesh will have to refocus on winning game three instead.
Pakistan Form
Pakistan's failure in their opening match is not one that should particularly worry the touring side, but they will be keen to ensure one loss does not become another in double-quick time.
The travelling side will have been in fairly good spirits heading home from the T20 World after only losing to India and England. While they were dumped out ahead of the semi-finals, the weather was the opponent that proved unbeatable as their washed out clash with New Zealand was terminal.
Heading into their clash with Bangladesh, the touring side would have pointed to a four-game winning run in the ODI game. However, as is the case when any side takes extended time away from a specific format, their return does not always go to plan.
They struggled massively with the bat, but I perceive this to be more of a blip for the side. They will also hope for more incision with the ball, and I back captain Shaheen Shah Afridi to provide this. He removed Saif Hassan for four to give the travelling side some hope, and I predict that his express pace will give the home side issues as he leads the tourists to a win.
Verdict
I am backing Pakistan to secure a win that keeps the series alive as a contest as Shaheen Shah Afridi leads in the wicket-taking column for Pakistan.
