Bangladesh vs Pakistan 1st ODI Preview & Tips
Bangladesh are playing their first cricket match since December after not featuring across the recent Twenty20 World Cup in India and Sri Lanka.
Pakistan are hoping to take some of their T20 World Cup disappointment out on Bangladesh after they were knocked out in the Super 8's stage of the tournament.
- Bangladesh have lost seven of their last 10 in the ODI game (W3)
- Sahibzada Farhan top scored at the T20 World Cup (383 runs)
Head To Head
Pakistan have won six of their last 10 ODI's against Bangladesh, with the latter winning the other four.
Bangladesh Form
Bangladesh eased to an impressive 179-run win over the West Indies in their last game as they notched a 2-1 ODI series win over the Windies.
While this triumph was a display of their power with both bat and ball, it came all the way back on October 23rd. Of course, most sides have been focussing on the T20 format, but this amount of time away from the pitch coupled with their omission from the T20 World Cup means that Bangladesh will be short of game time heading into this one.
The home side have struggled against Pakistan in the ODI game with defeats coming in their last three meetings. Without a game since their win over Ireland back in early- December, I predict that the home side will struggle to get much going as they are beaten by a side that showed glimpses of their quality at the T20 World Cup.
Pakistan Form
Pakistan were not quite able to back up three wins in four T20 World Cup group games as a no result against New Zealand in the Super 8's was quickly followed by a tight loss to England. While they did beat Sri Lanka in their final group game, it was not enough as New Zealand progressed via net run rate.
Now, Pakistan have the opportunity to forget about their T20 World Cup woes by taking on Bangladesh in a three-match ODI series. Pakistan have been fairly good in the 50 over game, winning their last four, although they have not played an ODI since mid-November.
While switching from the all-action T20 game to the 50 over format can be a tough ask, I am backing Pakistan's exploits from their T20 World Cup campaign to stand them in good stead as they secure a win in the opening ODI against Bangladesh.
Sahibzada Farhan was the standout performer for Pakistan with the bat at the World Cup and I predict that he will bring his exploits into this series as he begins with a good score.
Verdict
I am backing Sahibzada Farhan to build on his exceptional form at the T20 World Cup as he leads Pakistan to an ODI win over Bangladesh.
